David Mankin: Portals

17 April - 16 May 2026
A solo exhibition by the renowned UK painter

We are delighted to announce 'Portals', a solo exhibition by David Mankin, one of the most admired and respected painters working in the UK today.

David's rich and striking canvases evoke the beauty and drama of the Cornish landscape where he lives and works. Densely layered and marked with conviction and panache, these expressive paintings are immediately identifiable as David's work yet belong firmly in the tradition of Cornish abstraction and the abstraction of the landscape in particular.

In this exhibition Mankin invites viewers to step through the work. These are paintings that embody mystery, passage and the unknown. Each canvas becomes a threshold, a portal through which the viewer steps into a heightened state of perception where memory, sensation and emotion converge.

David first showed with the gallery in 2025 in our exhibition 'Contemporary Cornwall Painting' alongside Dan Cook, Spencer Shakespeare and Harry Wade. We are thrilled to present a fuller body of work with this exhibition, which will feature David's paintings across the full range of scales at which he works, from intimate panels to large, fully enveloping canvases.

David will be in the gallery on the preview evening, Thursday 16 April, and again to give a talk on Thursday 7 May. Both events start at 6pm.

A catalogue will be available to pre-order from March 2026.

If you would like to express interest in the catalogue or to attend one or both events, please email hello@vannergallery.com
