A celebration of the career of acclaimed potter Joanna Still
One Pair of Hands showcases the ceramic work of potter Joanna Still (b.1951, Wiltshire) bringing together examples of her early painted wares from the 1980s alongside her fine and textured sculptural vessels of the 2000s.
The story of her studio life is illustrated through a visual narrative highlighting the influences, interests and experiences that have shaped her work.
Comprising a selection of archival pieces from across her career, this retrospective offers valuable insight into Joanna's creative process for the first time.
All works in the exhibition are for sale.
"A 'trademark' Still jug will be upright, confident and perfectly balanced, with a small base, a curvaceous body and a precisely formed handle and narrow pouring lip. Its decoration will have a rhythmic quality, will reflect the spontaneous process of making and will be lively in a rather underplayed manner.
...the intense colours are counterpointed with the chalky, soft light of Wiltshire... a suggestion of place, or maybe gestures of nature trapped by the firing on the walls of the low-fired pots..."
