Beth Shapeero: Hot Excitement

25 June - 25 July 2026
A solo exhibition by Glasgow-based artist Beth Shapeero

Hot Excitement marks Shapeero’s first solo exhibition in England since 2012. Based in Glasgow since relocating in 2011 to undertake a Masters at the Glasgow School of Art, Shapeero’s practice has undergone a significant expansion in recent years, driven in part by access to large-scale temporary studio spaces.

The exhibition brings together a selection of recent paintings and large-scale works on paper made during an especially prolific period of making. Currently working from an abandoned 1990s office building on the outskirts of Glasgow, Shapeero has, for the first time in her twenty-year career, had the space to work across multiple large canvases simultaneously. This shift has transformed her relationship to painting. Earlier attempts at canvas often felt constrained by the surface’s expense and perceived preciousness; the freedom to work expansively, quickly, and without overprotection has allowed a new looseness and confidence to emerge.

Beth Shapeero (b. 1985, Nottingham) is a painter and printmaker. Her practice explores sensation, memory and the body through abstraction. She works across painting and printmaking, often combining the two to produce works that emphasise process, materiality and scale.

Shapeero is one half of the collaborative duo Two-Step, alongside artist Fraser Taylor. Together, they challenge the boundaries of printmaking through large-scale, dynamic installations. She is also co-director of the artist-led gallery ShapeeroMurray, working to support artists in a fragile arts economy.
